l’interview de Jake Lodwick

… People can hardly sit through a movie without checking their smartphones, and you wouldn’t need to touch physical devices but instead could just see the information floating in space. Driving directions will appear as arrows on the street. When you chat with someone, it will look like the person is in the room with you. Life will start to feel like a digital dream.

I realize this sounds extreme, but there seems to be a basic desire for more lifelike screens, and I think persistent augmented reality is the logical conclusion of that drive.

Looking at the job market, we’ll see a lot more humans who don’t have bosses but have a computer telling them what to do next. A great example is the car service Uber. I open the app, pin my location, and a black car shows up four minutes later. Similar services exist for effortlessly finding someone to cook your food, run your errands, and clean your house. I see an explosion of work that’s organized by real-time computer systems and a decreasing number of reliable office jobs. »

l’interview de Stephanie Coontz

« The real macro trend here is not so much that marriage is going out the window, but that people spend a much larger proportion of their lives before marriage, after divorce, or—because of the extended lifespan—after widowhood, in the single state. Plus, a lot of decision making that we used to associate with marriage—from buying homes to having kids—no longer takes place in the framework of marriage, even though the majority of women do eventually marry. »
